Traffic movement on the Hatton–Colombo main road, which was disrupted due to an earth slip at Kuyilwatte, has now been restored.
Traffic on the road was disrupted for several hours after an earth slip occurred in the Kuyilwatte area at around 6:00 p.m. yesterday (24), due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions.
Meanwhile, the Police and the Road Development Authority have taken steps to clear the affected roads and restore traffic flow on several feeder and side roads.
An earth slip also occurred above the Hatton Bus Stand last afternoon, with earth mounds falling near a parked Maskeliya-bound bus. No injuries were reported; however, there remains a risk of further earth slips in the area.
Due to the ongoing rains, Hatton Police have urged drivers to exercise caution, as there is a continued risk of earth slips along the Hatton–Nuwara Eliya main road, the Hatton–Colombo main road, and surrounding feeder routes.
Engineers in charge of the reservoirs reported that two spill gates each at the Upper Kotmale and Lakshapana reservoirs have been opened, while water levels in other reservoirs in the region continue to rise.
