Former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardhana’s wife, Chinari Lakmanthi Hettiarachchi, has been remanded until October 06, following her arrest by the Bribery Commission on bribery charges.

 

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order after considering submissions made by officials of the Bribery Commission and lawyers appearing for the suspect, Ada Derana reporter said. 

 

She is accused of providing a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to an office assistant at the Colombo High Court, in order to influence a judge to impose a suspended prison sentence in relation to a case pending against former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena at the court.
