Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has called on the government to swiftly remove the restrictions imposed on solar power projects and resume the approval process for such projects.
He made these remarks when he met with the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) to inform the commission about what he described as steps taken by the present government that are adversely affecting solar energy projects.
Premadasa visited the commission today (28) together with a group of individuals involved in the solar energy sector and held discussions regarding the challenges they are currently facing.
Speaking further, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said:
“We came here today on behalf of the small- and medium-scale clean energy entrepreneurs in this country to oppose the government’s efforts to promote, both directly and indirectly, what can be described as a thermal power plant and fuel power plant mafia, while merely speaking about renewable energy in name.”
He called for immediate action to remove the barriers faced by solar energy developers and for the process of granting approvals for solar power projects to be resumed.
Premadasa also highlighted the importance of supporting small and medium-scale entrepreneurs operating in the renewable energy sector and ensuring that they are able to continue their investments and operations without unnecessary restrictions.
