Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has called for a new approach to state policy to address the challenges emerging from rapid changes in society and to safeguard both children and adults.
In a message marking World Children’s Day, Opposition Leader Premadasa said changing social attitudes and conditions required the State to formulate policies from a new perspective, with greater attention to the challenges faced by different generations.
He stressed that protecting children and adults in a changing society should be a key consideration when developing state policies, while ensuring that children are equipped to face the demands of the future.
Premadasa noted that education has a vital role not only in fulfilling the aspiration of creating good citizens but also in developing professional skills. He called for an education system capable of preparing children to overcome future challenges and providing them with the knowledge and skills required to build a suitable future.
The Opposition Leader said the changes taking place within society required policymakers to respond to emerging needs and ensure that state policies remain relevant to the realities faced by children and adults.
