President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stressed the need to remove existing obstacles facing Sri Lanka’s construction industry and revive the sector, citing its direct contribution to economic activity and national development.

President Dissanayake made the remarks during a meeting with key stakeholders in the construction industry held yesterday (September 30) at the Presidential Secretariat.

The President reviewed the current status and future trends of the construction sector and sought proposals from industry stakeholders on measures to overcome existing barriers and strengthen the sector’s sustainable growth, according to a statement by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

The President emphasised the importance of identifying and addressing the obstacles hindering the construction industry and creating a new revival in the sector.

Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply Dr. Susil Ranasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Dr. Harshana Sooriyapperuma and representatives of the construction industry attended the meeting.
