An ‘Amber’ advisory has been issued by the Department of Meteorology for severe lightning in the North-Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Western and North Central provinces and Galle, Matara and Mannar districts.

 

The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (04), will remain in effect until 01.00 a.m. tomorrow (05). 

 

Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the North-western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Western and North-central provinces and in Galle, Matara and Mannar districts.

 

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, the Met. Department said.

 

The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the risk of damage caused by lightning activity.
