
Six individuals who were arrested while participating in a protest organized by the People’s Struggle Movement have been granted bail.
The six were taken into custody during the protest and were subsequently produced before court.
Following consideration of the case, the court ordered their release on bail.
A total of six individuals who were arrested during a protest organised by the People’s Struggle Movement in Colombo yesterday (03) have been granted bail after being produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (04).
Police said the group was arrested on charges of participating in an unlawful public gathering and using loudspeakers without the required permits.
The People’s Struggle Movement held a protest march demanding the reduction of taxes and lessening the cost of living.
The protesters marched from Campbell Park in Borella to Pettah, where they staged a demonstration outside the Colombo Central Bus Stand.
Police subsequently arrested six participants in connection with the protest.
The suspects were produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court this afternoon, and the court later ordered their release on bail.
