Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has stressed the importance of health sector personnel having a clear understanding of the direction in which the country’s health service is moving, saying this would help improve the delivery of healthcare services to the general public while minimizing conflicts and friction among different professional groups.
The Health Minister made these remarks today (04) at a ceremony held at Temple Trees to present appointment letters to 1,056 newly recruited midwives.
The Minister said a clear understanding of the direction of the health service would not only make it easier for healthcare workers to serve the public effectively, but would also help reduce professional disputes and tensions that could obstruct the progress of the health sector.
The newly appointed midwives have joined the health service at a time of significant transformation, he said.
Following the successful completion of a year-and-a-half-long structured training programme, the officers will be assigned to hospitals and health institutions across the country administered by the Provincial Councils and the line ministry.
