The Grandpass Police have launched a special programme to help more than 30 children who had been absent from school for extended periods without valid reasons return to education.
As part of the initiative, the children were placed in Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim schools today (5), allowing them to resume their studies.
Police said the children were identified following discussions with the relevant school authorities. With police intervention, the necessary facilities and support were provided to enable the children to return to their classrooms.
The Grandpass Police have also issued a stern warning to parents who fail to send their children to school without a valid reason, stating that legal action will be taken against them in the future.
Meanwhile, police said a special monitoring programme will be introduced to ensure that the children continue their education and remain safe. Daily updates on their attendance and well-being will be obtained through the respective schools.
The initiative is expected to give many children who were at risk of being deprived of their education an opportunity to return to school and build a better future.
