
A program to construct 237 new houses for families who lost their homes or were placed at high risk due to Cyclone Ditwah in the Badulla District is scheduled to commence tomorrow (7).
The program, which will also provide Rs. 5 million in financial assistance to individuals affected by the disaster, will be held under the patronage of Minister Samantha Viddyarathna.
The housing project will cover several Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Badulla District. According to the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, the government will provide the land required for the construction of the new homes.
Construction is scheduled to begin on government-owned land in Kandaketiya, Soranathota, Hali-Ela, Badulla, Passara and Meegahakivula.
Foundation stones for 68 houses in the Kandaketiya and Soranathota Divisional Secretariat Divisions will be laid tomorrow (7). Meanwhile, foundation stones for 123 houses in the Hali-Ela, Badulla and Passara divisions will be laid on October 8, followed by another 46 houses in the Meegahakivula Divisional Secretariat Division on October 9.
The Ministry said the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, the Badulla District Secretariat and the National Disaster Relief Services Centre will provide active support for the construction project.
