Director of Irrigation (Water Management) Engineer H.M.P.S.D. Herath has stated that two spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by two feet each due to prevailing heavy rainfall.
Accordingly, a water volume of 2,800 cubic feet per second is currently being released into the Deduru Oya through the spill gates.
Residents living along both banks of the Deduru Oya in areas downstream of the reservoir have been advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution, Herath further said.
