Advisory issued for severe lightning
The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for severe lightning in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-Western and Southern provinces, as well as the Anuradhapura and Mannar districts.
The advisory, issued at 11.00 a.m. today (09), will remain in effect until 1.00 a.m. tomorrow (10).
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several locations across the affected provinces and districts.
Temporary, localised strong winds may also occur during thundershowers, it said.
The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimise potential damage caused by lightning activity.
