
The Department of Irrigation has stated that six major reservoirs and two medium-sized reservoirs are currently spilling.
This was stated in a report released by the Irrigation Department on water levels of reservoirs in Sri Lanka.
The major reservoirs currently spilling are Ambewela Reservoir, Kande Ela Reservoir, Yan Oya, Rajanganaya Reservoir, Deduru Oya Reservoir and Wan Ela.
At the Rajanganaya Reservoir, two spill gates have been opened by five feet each, another two by four feet each, and a further two by two feet each, the Department said.
Accordingly, water is being released from the Rajanganaya Reservoir into the Kala Oya at a rate of 5,365 cubic feet per second.
Meanwhile, the Department said water is being released from the Deduru Oya Reservoir into the Deduru Oya at a rate of 2,800 cubic feet per second. Two spill gates at the reservoir have been opened by two feet each.
The Irrigation Department’s report further stated that the Bomburuella and Denagama Wewa reservoirs, among the medium-sized reservoirs, are also spilling.
