Over 5,500 people affected by adverse weather conditions across Sri Lanka

A total of 5,747 individuals have been affected by prevailing rainy weather across Sri Lanka, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.

 

According to a report issued by the DMC, the adverse weather conditions have affected 1,594 families across 166 Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs).

 

The report also records eight deaths and one person reported missing due to the adverse weather. A further 12 people have sustained injuries, the DMC noted.

 

The DMC said the weather-related disasters have caused four houses to be completely damaged while another 953 to sustain partial damage.

 

Meanwhile, drought conditions continue to affect 156,756 individuals belonging to 47,583 families across 32 DSDs in 12 districts, according to the DMC report.

 

The DMC has taken steps to distribute drinking water in 28 of the 32 affected DSDs.

 

The report added that drinking water has so far been distributed to a total of 128,977 individuals from 38,547 families.
