Puttalam Asst. Elections Commissioner transferred as investigation begins

The Puttalam Assistant Elections Commissioner, Sumith Chandana has been transferred to the Colombo Elections Secretariat until authorities complete the investigation on the three bags of marked ballot papers found in a counting centre in Puttalam.

 

Samantha Jayasingha has been appointed as a temporary replacement until the investigation is complete.

 

The CID took several statements from several persons regarding the ballot papers that were found at St. Andrew’s College in Puttalam following the Provincial Council election.

 

The Elections Commissioner has requested the Ministry of Public Administration to appoint a committee to look into the matter.
