February 26, 2015   09:58 am

Former Police Media Spokesman SSP Prashantha Jayakody, who left for Australia in 2013 after alleging unduly political pressure during his execution of police duties, is set to return to the country today.

He is reportedly scheduled to make a special disclosure after returning to the island later today.

Prishantha Jayakody is to hold a special press conference in Colombo this afternoon and will make the exposé at the event, it has been reported.

In February 2013, SSP Jayakody was transferred from his post as police spokesman to serve as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of Ratnapura Division.

However, in April 2013 it was reported that Jayakody had received threatening phone call following a raid carried out by him at a karaoke bar operating in Ratnapura.

In July 2013, the police officer left for Australia for special training after taking duty leave. The following month Police Headquarters suspended the services of SSP Prishantha Jayakody, who was deemed to have vacated his post as he had not returned to the country from Australia within the given period.

It was later reported that Australia has granted political asylum to the former SSP of Rathnapura division.
