One suspect arrested over the stabbing attack on the father of notorious drug kingpin ‘Kanjipani Imran’ has been remanded until July 02 after being before Colombo Additional Magistrate today (19).

In the meantime, the court also granted permission to detain three more suspects for 24 hours for interrogation.

On Wednesday evening (17), three individuals, who arrived in a three-wheeler, had attacked Kanjipani Imran’s father using sharp weapons.

The 65-year-old victim, who sustained several cut wounds, was later admitted to the Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) of the Colombo National hospital for treatment. His condition is not critical, hospital sources had said.

One of the three suspects was subsequently apprehended by the Maligawatta Police along with the three-wheeler they used for the crime. The arrested suspect was identified as a resident of Anuradhapura.

The victim had been under remand custody in 2019 over an attempt to smuggle in 2 mobile phones to an imprisoned ‘Kanjipani Imran’ by concealing them among food containers.

Kanjipani Imran is currently under remand custody at the Boossa Maximum-Security Prison.
