The body of a 15-year-old school girl has been fished out from the Deduru Oya Reservoir this morning, two days after she allegedly jumped into the reservoir with a teenage boy in an apparent double suicide.

The body was recovered at around 6.30am today with the help of navy divers, the police media unit said. The deceased, H.B. Subadra, is a resident of Halmillewa, Wariyapola.

As a result of search operations launched from Wednesday (11) after the two teenagers allegedly jumped into the Deduru Oya Reservoir, authorities had yesterday recovered the body of the 15-year-old boy, Tharindu Nishantha.

Police, navy and concerned villagers had joined the wide search operation following information received Wednesday afternoon that the students jumped into the reservoir in what is suspected to be a double suicide.

The school bags of the two teenagers, who are believed to be lovers, were found near the bank of the reservoir while the boy’s school shirt was also discovered nearby.

According to the books found inside the bags, the teenagers were identified as Grade 11 students from different schools in Kuliyapitiya while police took steps to notify their parents through the schools’ principals.
