A suspect wanted in connection with the shooting and killing of two individuals, including Surendra Wasantha Perera, also known as ‘Club Wasantha,’ has been apprehended by the Western Province (South) Crimes Division.

The 36-year-old suspect, a resident of the Dharga Town, was arrested yesterday (06) at the Southern Expressway service area and then escorted to the Athurugiriya Police Station. He is accused of aiding and abetting in the murders.

It has been revealed that before the crime was committed, the suspect in question had rented a house for the suspects and arranged a van to transport the two shooters and weapons from the Ambalangoda area to the Athurugiriya area.

Based on the information revealed from the arrested suspects in connection with this crime, the bus used by the shooters to escape along the Southern Expressway had been sold to an individual in the Kataragama area. The bus was taken into custody yesterday by officers of the Western Province South Crime Division and handed over to Athurugiriya Police.

So far, eleven suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting and Athurigiriya Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.

The shocking shooting incident had occurred during the opening ceremony of a tattoo and piercing studio near the Clock Tower in Athurugiriya on July 08 morning.

Six people were rushed to the hospital following the incident. Police later confirmed that 55-year-old businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, popularly known as “Club Wasantha,” and a 38-year-old male had succumbed to their injuries.

Popular singer K. Sujeewa and Wasantha’s wife were reported to be among the four injured persons.
