The Society of Radiological Technologists Association Sri Lanka (SRTSL) says that they have requested Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya to appoint a committee to investigate corruption and irregularities that have allegedly taken place within the Ministry of Health in the recent past.

The association’s chairman Chanaka Dharmawickrama, stated that the association is prepared to provide information related to these issues to the said committee.

“Currently, the Prime Minister is working as the Minister of Health. In particular, we say that in the past, a lot of fraud and corruption occurred in matters such as the procurement of large stocks of drugs,” he said.

Dharmawickrama further emphasized that the new President and the Prime Minister, who is concurrently serving as the Minister of Health, should take immediate action on this matter.

“As professional associations, we have continuously exposed these. We especially hope that this new president and the health minister will immediately act to appoint a committee to investigate the corruption that occurred in the past.”

He emphasized that that the appointed committee should not be the same as those in the past and that it needs to be an independent committee.

Dharmawickrama added that a conducive environment should be created allowing the healthcare trade union leaders, as well as the healthcare workers, to disclose information about the acts of fraud and corruption they are aware of.
