The administration board of the Eastern University Sri Lanka has decided to impose a one year suspension each on 14 students from the university. The student are said to have been suspended due to them being involved in incidents of ragging and student clashes.
The decision had been taken at a meeting held by the administration of the university yesterday (18 November) at around 10am.
Five of the 14 suspended students are said to have been involved in the ragging of a female student, belonging to the Faculty of Commerce and Management on 17 November.
Seven of the suspended students are from the Swamy Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies, which is affiliated to the Eastern University. They have allegedly taken part in a student clash last month in which several students had been injured.
However the President of the Eastern University Students Council speaking to Ada Derana correspondent had stated that big decisions are being taken in regard to minor issues.
