JVP activists arrested while pasting posters

A group of JVP supporters have been arrested allegedly by officers of the Moratuwa police while they had been pasting posters. The group had been pasting posters regarding the National JVP Convention to be held at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on February 10.

The group had been arrested without giving any cause and they are being detained at the police station without even taking down verbal statements from them, a release issued by the JVP today (February 07) states.

Meanwhile, posters that had been pasted on boards reserved for posters in the Kirulapana area have been torn off by government thugs, the statement also reads.

Colombo Municipal Councillor and JVP member Hemantha Weerakoon had queried regarding this matter and the thugs had then stated that the posters are being removed according to ‘orders from top’, the JVP accuses.

Complaints have been lodged regarding the issue at the Kirulapana police under the CIB 246/77 number, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) media unit further states.
