A schoolboy has gone missing after reportedly drowning in the Kehelgamu Oya, a tributary that feeds into the Castlereagh Reservoir.
The missing student has been identified as a Grade 11 student of Norwood Tamil Maha Vidyalaya.
According to reports, the incident occurred this afternoon (April 4) when the boy, along with several friends, was bathing in an area known as “Silver Wala” in the Kehelgamu Oya in Norwood. He is believed to have drowned and subsequently gone missing.
His friends attempted to rescue him, but their efforts were unsuccessful as the location where he disappeared is said to be a deep section of the river.
The incident was later reported to the Norwood Police.
A search operation has been launched to locate the missing student.
