Colombo, June 2011: Following the resounding success of its Vehicle Breakdown Assistance Service in Anuradhapura, Kandy, Kataragama and Madhu during the past years, Janashakthi conducted a similar service for the convenience of devotees and the general public, for the third consecutive year, at Anuradhapura and Mihintale this Poson Poya.

This Vehicle Breakdown Assistance Service benefitted not only vehicles with policies from Janashakthi Full Option, but also all vehicles irrespective whom they were insured with.

From 9.00 am to midnight on all four days, from 14 to 17 June, Janashakthi’s highly trained technicians operated the well-equipped Vehicle Breakdown Assistance Service, offering a wide range of services such as rectifying battery failure, electrical faults, tyre punctures, clutch and brake faults, fuel delivery and many more. More than 100 vehicles were attended to during the four days, thus ensuring a stress-free and hassle-free experience for the thousands of devotees who came from different parts of the island.

In keeping with its commitment to working closely with the people of Sri Lanka, Janashakthi also installed brand new street name boards and directional boards to car parks and the many places of worship in Mihintale. This too greatly helped the thousands of Buddhist devotees and foreign visitors who converged on Mihintale on Poson Poya Day.

DIG Police - North Central, Kithsiri Dayananda thanked Janashakthi for volunteering to be of help to the general public and attending to vehicles irrespective who they were insured with. “We noted that much of the unnecessary traffic congestion has been avoided thanks to Janashakthi’s Vehicle Breakdown Service, which helped in the easy flow of traffic. This service offered by Janashakthi was a topic of discussion among many devotees. My team and I look forward to working with Janashakthi every Poson Poya in the years to come”.

Going a step further, Janashakthi, in collaboration with the Mahanayaka Thera of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya and the Archeological Department is planning to erect Information Boards at several vantage points around the Sacred City explaining the significance and importance of those respective places. A leaflet to this effect was distributed during this period to all devotees.

Janashakthi in collaboration with the Siseth Foundation also offered 100,000 lotus flowers to the Mihintale Viharaya. This was a well attended and colourful event with lights, cutouts with religious messages and the participation of more than 15,000 people.

Head of Marketing at Janashakthi Insurance PCL Paddy Weerasekera said, “As a corporate citizen, Janashakhti is delighted to be of continuous service to people of this country. We are convinced that the true hallmark of a responsible corporate citizen is giving back to society. This forms the basis for all our people-oriented activities and we are indeed proud of it”.

Janashakthi created yet another revolution in Sri Lanka’s insurance industry with the launch of the country’s first-ever 24-hour vehicle breakdown policy. This much acclaimed industry first – “Full Option Vehicle Emergency Policy” is operative 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year. It is not only for Janashakthi customers but also for all motorists all over Sri Lanka.

With its wide ranging facilities and services, this Full Option Vehicle Emergency Policy blazes a trail and emerges as one of the best-ever products Sri Lanka’s insurance industry has seen in recent times.

Janashakthi Insurance PLC, has over the years been involved with a number of social responsibility projects including dengue awareness, tube wells in rural areas, mobile hospitals, safety lamps, cycle reflector light project, street names boards, road safety message boards, hospital directional signage, H1N1 awareness programmes and vehicle breakdown services to name a few. In the pipeline are several other strategic CSR projects which encompass the safety of this country’s school children and motorists.
