Passports fees and validity period for minors revised

The validity period of new passports for children, below 16 years of age has been reduced from 10 years to 3 years while the cost for same day all country service is to be reduced from Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 3,500, the Department of Immigration and Emigration said today.

It said while the current validity period of passports issued for minors is 10 years, due to rapid change in the physical appearance of children, parents have had face numerous difficulties at airports.  

Therefore the validity period of passports issued for children below the age of 16 will be reduced from 10 to 3 years and the passport fees for minors will also be reduced with effect from September 01, the Department said.
