VIDEO: A’pura doctors in continues strike, no arrests over attack - GMOA

The vehicle of the doctor assaulted by political party supporters last night.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) says that the strike launched by doctors of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital will continue as police have failed to arrest any persons responsible for the attack on a doctor last night.

The strike which will be carried out within the course of today will not end until authorities apprehend all suspects involved in the attack, GMOA spokesman Dr. Naveen de Soysa said.

He further warned that they would resort to strict trade union action if authorities fail to take proper action against the political party supporters, who had reportedly assaulted the doctor.

It was said that around 30 supporters of a prominent politician had stopped the vehicle of the doctor in the middle of the road in front of a political campaign center and shattered the glass of the car and finally had assaulted the doctor.

The doctor is now being treated at Neuro-Surgical Intensive Care unit of Anuradhapura Hospital.

According to the Network for Election Monitoring and Intellectuals for Human Rights (NEMIHR) the doctor in question was assaulted last night by a group of supporters of former North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake.
