Suspects of Madawala murder remanded till January 31

The five suspects arrested in connection with the murder of former Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Hasitha Madawala have been remanded until January 31 by the Mahara Magistrate Court today (January 17).

The five suspects charged with the murder of the PS member were brought before the court today amidst demonstrations outside demanding the arrest of Minister Mervyn Silva who some member of the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha claim is also involved in the murder.

The Attorneys who appeared for Hasitha Madawala requested the court to order the arrest of any other suspects connected with the murder of the PS member which took place on January 9.

They furthermore added that since some of the suspects had confessed to being involved in the murder they should not be granted bail.

The Magistrate ordered that lead suspect Sujeewa Rangana and the other four suspects including Cathuranga Weerasekera, Vidanipathiranage Saman, Hemantha Kumara Perera and Sarath Edirisinghe alias ‘Singapore Sarath’ to be further remanded until January 31.
