The Ministry of Economic Development revealed that the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) began laying pipelines to supply clean drinking water to the residents of Rathupaswala, Gampaha.
In a press release, the Ministry stated that the NWSDB t began laying pipelines for the supply of clean drinking water to 700 families of Rathupaswala on Saturday August 10.
At Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa’s request work on this has been expedited under the direction of Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardene. The water is being supplied from the Biyagama Water Purification Plant to meet the urgent need of the people.
The Water Supply and Drainage Ministry has already taken steps to supply 40,000 people in Rathupaswala, Weliweriya, Minuwangoda and Attanagalla with clean drinking water under the Gampaha-Attanagalla-Minuwangoda giant water supply scheme sourced to Attanagalla. Sri Lanka and China will sign the agreement on this project costing Rs.22,000 million at the end of this month.
The NWSDB is already providing water by bowsers to people of Nadungamuwa, Rathupaswala, Uruwala North and Uruwala West, Magalwala and Sivuralumulla. Five NWSDB bowsers and three Pradeshiya Sabha Bowsers have been deployed for the purpose.
