Following successful editions across India and Cambodia, the TukTuk Tournament 2026 concluded its Sri Lankan run with an energetic finish-line celebration at Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon.
Now in its 8th consecutive year, the event is conceptualized and organized by tuktukrental.com, a social business operating in the experiential travel sector and a recipient of the prestigious Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award, ranking among the top 10% of travel businesses worldwide.
The 14-day, 1,000-kilometer gamified expedition brought together 218 travelers in 94 teams representing 27 nationalities.
Designed to champion off-season "slow travel," the event kept international visitors on the island well beyond typical tourist stays. Routing from Pegasus Reef (Wattala) through Cinnamon Citadel (Kandy) to Hikka Tranz (Hikkaduwa), teams stayed in homestays, hostels, luxury villas, and star-class hotels alike.
By renting 100% of the three-wheelers directly from local owners and spending in off-the-beaten-path villages, the journey channeled essential travel revenue straight into grassroots family livelihoods and rural micro-economies.
Key Social & Environmental Highlights:
● Clean Drinking Water: Tournament points were converted into permanent water connections for families in the Northern and Eastern provinces in partnership with the PALM Foundation, totaling 228 connections to date.
● Cleaner Oceans: In collaboration with the Zero Plastic Movement, 1 kilogram of ocean-bound plastic was collected and cleared for every participating traveler.
Supported by global partners Red Bull and Valvoline, the TukTuk Tournament delivers a proven model for sustainable tourism—blending cross-country adventure with lasting community development.
