
UNP Kalutara District MP Palitha Thewarapperuma’s party membership has been temporarily suspended following a recent spat at a UNP Parliamentary Committee meeting.
The Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and the Leadership Council met yesterday (February 6) and took a decision to temporarily suspend the MP.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake stated that an inquiry will be launched in the coming days regarding the MP’s conduct.
On Wednesday (February 5) MP Palitha Thewarapperuma had allegedly caused a stir at a UNP Parliamentary Committee meeting at the Parliament complex. Reports stated at the time that the MP attempted to assault the Opposition Leader over a disagreement.
