Bus drivers operating on several routes including Matara to Colombo, Galle, Kataragama and Hambantota who launched a strike from midnight yesterday (13) have decided to end their strike action.
The drivers staged the strike while demanding that private buses be allowed to ply the Southern Expressway from Matara.
The bus drivers stated that they received the desired responses to their requests following discussions with the transport authorities.
The opening of the Galle - Matara section of the Southern Expressway is scheduled to take place on March 15.
Chairman of the Matara Passenger Transport Company, A. K. H. Halpage stated that private bus owners had sought permission from the National Transport Commission (NTC) to operate on the expressway from Matara.
However, he added, that approval has not been granted yet and therefore they have decided to resort to strike action.
