UPFA candidate Pasanda Yapa Abeywardana, the son of Investment Promotion Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana, has topped the preference vote list from the Matara District in the 2014 Southern Provincial Council election with a total of 76,870 votes.
Right behind Abeywardana is Chandima Rasaputhra with 70,509 preference votes while fellow UPFA candidate Sarath Yapa is third with 47,090 votes.
Former UPFA Matara Municipal Councilor Chathura Galappathi, who crossed over to the UNP to contest the PC polls, has received the highest preference votes for the UNP in Matara District.
