Eastern Provincial Councilor Ameer Ali of the All Ceylon Muslim Congress (ACMC) has been sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the seat left vacant by the resignation of A.H.M. Azwer last week.
Ali will sit as a National List MP of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
Azwer resigned from Parliament on November 28 while the seat was proposed to be given to council member Ameer Ali.
Azwer was later appointed as Senior Advisor to the President on parliamentary affairs, mass media and communication.
Ameer Ali Shihabdeen, a former Parliamentarian and former Minister of Disaster Relief Services, is a member of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen’s All Ceylon Muslim Congress in Eastern Provincial Council.
Ameer Ali was one of three ACMC Eastern Provincial Council members who decided to sit independently in the council from 25 November.
