Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Germany, Karunatilaka Amunugama met the Director General of the Department of Aerospace of the Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure of Germany, Gerold Reichle in Berlin, and discussed at length, the strengthening of Sri Lanka - German civil aviation relations.

Ambassador Amunugama highlighted the great demand for intensifying bilateral cooperation in the field of civil aviation, due to increased inbound tourism from Germany and the enormous business and trade avenues created with the high trajectory of economic growth, in Sri Lanka, following the defeat of terrorism.

During January-October 2014 alone, more than 87,000 German tourists visited Sri Lanka. He further emphasised the need for re-establishing direct SriLankan Airlines flights from Colombo to Berlin, catering to Northern Germany which is currently lacking .

During the meet on 17th December, Director General Reichle conveyed the German Government’s strong interest in strengthening bilateral relations and welcomed the Ambassador’s proposal on re-establishing direct air links between Berlin and Colombo.

Both sides agreed to continue their dialogue for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
