The elections for the Sri Lanka Cricket Board will be held in January 2016, says Sports Minister Navin Dissanayake.

He made this announcement in a meeting with former members of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, held at the Sports Minister’s office this evening (12), with the participation of Upali Dharmadasa, Nishantha Ranatunga, Mohan De Silva, Asanga Seneviratne, Ajitha Pasqual, and Hirantha Perera, on a request made by the former SLC members.

“The discussions were very cordial while the former board members assured their fullest cooperation and support to the Minister of Sports Navin Dissanayake to uplift cricket in the country,” a statement said.

Responding to a question made by the former board members, Minister Disanayake said that the ICC matter will be handled cordially by him together with the Interim Committee. The Minister further mentioned that he clarified his position to the ICC in this regard, when he met with the Chief Executive of ICC Dave Richardson and General Counsel of the ICC at the ICC offices in Dubai Iain Higgins last week in Dubai.

He stated that the Sri Lanka Cricket remains as an active and vibrant member at the ICC.  “The Minister pointed out the importance of the validity of the Interim committee and assured to hold the elections for the Sri Lanka Cricket Board in January 2016,” the ministry said in a statement.

With regard to the allegation of corruption that the Former Board members were very much concerned, Minister Dissanayake said that measures are underway to appoint a board of inquiry to look into the matter.

Both parties agreed to work cordially and the former members of SLC assured their fullest support to work for the betterment of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Director General of Department of Sports Development K.D.S Ruwanchandra, Attoney-at Law Janaprith Fernando and Secretary of the Interim Committee Prakash Shafter also attended the meeting.
