The Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) has been transferred with immediate effect, Police Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told Ada Derana.
Gunasekara added the transfer was made on service requirements. “The FCID’s OIC post has not been filled yet,” he said.
In addition to this, eight other OICs have also been transferred effective from today, said Gunasekara.
The newly formed police division came to controversy, after former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) application challenging the legality of establishing the FCID.
It has also come to light that President Maithripala Sirisena was unaware about the establishment of the FCID. The special police unit has reportedly been established through a subcommittee appointed by the Prime Minister.
The FCID most of the time drew attention to probe and interrogate complaints with respect to the close associates of the former government.
