Notorious underworld kingpin Jayaweera Patabendige Indika Nilusha alias Ukkuwa has been killed by an unidentified group of people in Tangalle, this morning (26), the police said.
Two other persons, who were injured during the clash, have also been admitted to the Tangalle hospital, the police added.
Last year, Ukkuwa was arrested for his alleged involvement in connection with the murder of a bus conductor at the Tangalle bus station.
According to the sources, Ukkuwa (37), started his very first job as a tour guide, when he was 14-year old. He was also the owner of two beach resorts located in heart of Tangalle city. According to the police, both resorts are illegal constructions. He was a father to two children.
Ukkuwa was alleged to have been involved in a string of crimes including drug trafficking, murders, and taking sexual advantage of female tourists.
