The enjoining order preventing the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) from convening without the consent of the party’s Chairman, has been extended until August 24 by the Colombo District Court.
The court order was initially issued on July 15 following a case filed by a member of the SLFP central committee, Prasanna Solangaarachchi.
The petition states that according to the SLFP constitution of the only the Chairman of the party, in this case President Maithripala Sirisena, is vested with the power to convene a meeting of the central committee.
While the petition is to be taken up for hearing on August 24, District Court Judge Harsha Sethunga instructed the respondent named in the petition, SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, to submit objections if any before the said date.
The enjoining order had been extended till today (August 7) by the Colombo District Court on July 29.
