UPDATED: Thirty-one suspects detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), due to suspected links to the LTTE, have been granted bail by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

Ada Derana reporter said that the suspects were granted bail following the receiving of approval from the Attorney General. 

However, they were reportedly transported back to the prison as their conditions were not fulfilled. 

Each of the suspects were ordered released on two personal bail of Rs 1 million each.

They were ordered by the court to submit proof of residence and were also barred from leaving the country. 

The magistrate also instructed them to appear before the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) of every other Sunday. 

Earlier today, the suspects were further remanded till November 24 by the court as there were no instructions from the Attorney General’s Department regarding the granting of bail.

However, the case was taken up again today following a motion presented by the AG, who had informed the court there was no objection to their release on bail.

Over 200 Tamil prisoners had yet again commenced their hunger strike in several prisons across the country yesterday to protest against being jailed for years without trial. Earlier, they ended the fast following an assurance from President Maithripala Sirisena that their grievances would be addressed.
