Constitutional Council set to decide on next IGP

The Constitutional Council, Sri Lanka’s constitutional authority, is scheduled to convene on April 18 to reach a final decision regarding the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police (IGP). 

 

N.K. Illanhakoon, Sri Lanka’s 33rd Police Chief, will officially retire from the service tomorrow (11).

 

The Constitutional Council has currently received the names of three suitable candidates for the vacant position of IGP, according to CC member and JVP MP Vijitha Herath.   

 

The names of Senior DIGs Pujitha Jayasundara, S M Wickramasinghe and Chandana Wickramaratne have been nominated to the Constitutional Council by President Maithripala Sirisena.

 

He stated that the Constitutional Council will meet on April 18 and take a final decision regarding the names proposed for the position of IGP.
