
The youth who allegedly disappeared while in police custody in Hambantota has been found at a temple in Dickwella, Matara.
The chief incumbent at the temple had informed police regarding the youth and handed him over to the police officers.
DIG Ajith Rohana made this announcement at a press conference in Colombo today (15).
The youth in question, G.G. Gayashan, 22, had initially been arrested by police on September 5, along with two others, over their alleged connection with the theft of 80 sacks of paddy from a storage facility in Bandagiriya.
However, he had disappeared while in custody some 9 days ago and was reported missing until today.
Four police officers - three Sergeants and one Constable- attached to the Hambantota Police Station were suspended today over the incident.
Several police officers attached to the Hambantota police station were also transferred over the same incident.
