The income of the Parliamentarians should be reasonable or they may intend to make money in other means, a top government minister said on Tuesday.
While clarifying the stance to allocate Rs.100,000 allowance for MPs, Minister S.B. Dissanayake pointed out the monthly basic salary of the Parliamentarians is insufficient to cope with their expenses. “Our salary is less than Rs.100,000 I guess,” said Dissanayake.
“Since we travel a lot, we need a ‘good’ vehicle, or with our age it’s not good for our health,” he said.
“I even don’t know how much my salary is,” Dissanayake said.
The Minister also went on to say the Cabinet nod has not yet been given to the Development (Special Provisions) draft bill, thus it would not be presented to the Parliament.
“The present government attempts to resolve issues through discussions. Because this is a coalition government, there could be different views among its members,” he said.
