The Administrative Services Union (ASU) on Sunday stressed it would not intend to take trade union action again over controversy surrounding the alleged sand mining issue in Divulapitiya.

While clarifying reasons to resort to trade union action earlier, Chairman of ASU, Ranjith Ariyaratne, said the decision to stage a demonstration was taken after Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake defamed the Divulapitiya Divisional Secretary by calling her a ‘thief’ in public.

Ariyaratne also went on to say the union will not oppose the move to probe allegation against the Divisional Secretary by the Anti-Graft Commission.

“Legal action should be taken after a proper investigation,” he said. Ariyaratne said that the Divulapitiya Divisional Secretary has too requested to probe allegation against her without any delay.

The Social Empowerment and Welfare Deputy Minister slammed the official using strong words over the issue regarding illegal sand mining in Akaragama area few weeks ago.
