Thilanga’s case against Arjuna dismissed

The defamation case filed by Thilanga Sumathipala against Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, demanding Rs 500 million in damages, has been dismissed by the Nugegoda District Court.
The case was filed by Sumathipala on March 03, 2005 claiming that Arjuna Ranatunga had made defamatory remarks regarding him at a press conference held at the latter’s residence on May 21, 2003.
Sumathipala had sought Rs 500 million in damages while stating out that Mr Ranatunga had harmed his reputation by accusing him of being corrupt and unsuitable to hold a position in the cricket board or any other.
However, the case was dismissed by the Nugegoda District Court today (24), delivering a verdict following a long dragged out trial.
