Minister Kabir Hashim says that he has decided to step down from the position of General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP).
The Minister of Higher education and Highways said that he will hand over his letter of resignation to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe within today (5).
Speaking to Ada Derana, Minister Kabir Hashim said that he decided to resign from the position in order to make way for party reforms.
PM Wickremesinghe recently assured the UNP Parliamentary Group that the party will undergo major reforms immediately after the conclusion of the motion of no confidence.
Accordingly, the new officials of the party are expected to be appointed before April 30 while the UNP Working Committee and its Parliamentary Group will hold relevant discussion on April 7 and 8.
