Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, says the Sri Lanka Army is ready to provide any assistance requested by the police to bring the situation in the Jaffna Peninsula under control.
The Army Commander was referring to the increased activities of criminal gangs such as “Aava Group” in Jaffna.
He stated that Sri Lanka Police is fulfilling its duties to the maximum in the Jaffna Peninsula and that the army and navy are standing by readily to provide any assistance if necessary.
“We are ready to provide any assistance requested to control the situation in the Jaffna Peninsula. Be it physical resources or intelligence,” he said.
The Army Chief made these comments while speaking to reporters during a religious ceremony held in connection with the forthcoming 69th Army Anniversary, at the Kataragama Kirivehera and Devala precincts last evening (5).
