The Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Ambassador to the Maldives, David McKinnon has stated today (29) that Canada is ‘very concerned‘ by the recent events in Sri Lanka and is closely monitoring the situation.

He states that respect for the rule of law is a cornerstone of democracy.

Canadian High Commissioner urges all parties to uphold Sri Lankan constitution and to refrain from violence.

“The Government of Sri Lanka needs to take concrete steps to meet its commitments to its own people--and the international community--with respect to accountability, transitional justice and ending impunity‎”, he further said issuing a statement.
