A low pressure area is likely to develop over the sea area south-east of the Bay of Bengal around today (Nov. 3) while there is a possibility of it moving towards Sri Lanka while deepening later, the Department of Meteorology warned. 

General public, naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard further.

Showers or thunder showers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern, North-central and Uva provinces. while showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 2.00p.m.

Heavy showers about 100-150mm may occur at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces, particularly in Kegalle, Gampaha and Kurunegala districts.

Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm may occur at some places in and Uva province and in Batticaloa, Ampara, Potuvil and Hambantota districts.

Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.

Sea Area:

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island. Heavy showers or thundershowers can be expected at some places over the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Potuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.

Winds will be easterly and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph over the sea areas extending from Batticaloa to Mannar via Trincomalee and Kankasanturai.

Winds will be North-easterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 10-20 kmph in the other sea areas around the island.
