A special advisory for cyclonic Storm ‘GAJA’ in the Bay of Bengal has been issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, stated the Meteorological Department.

 

The deep depression over southeast & adjoining central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during past 06 hours and has intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘GAJA’, according to the Meteorological Department.

 

The cyclonic storm laid centered at 0830am today (11) near latitude 13.5°N and longitude 88.9° E, about 1040 km northeast of Kankasanturai.

 

 It is very likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during next 24 hours, move west-northwestwards during next 36 hours and then west-southwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent 48 hours.

 

However, while moving west-southwestwards it is also likely to weaken gradually and cross North Tamil Nadu – south Andhra Pradesh coasts as a cyclonic storm during 15th November forenoon.
