Chavakachcheri court prohibits Mahaviru commemorations

The Chavakachcheri Magistrate’s Court today accepted the Attorney General’s submissions and issued a Prohibition Order preventing ‘Mahaviru’ commemoration ceremonies, the AG’s Coordinating Officer said.
Mullaitivu and Jaffna Magistrate’s Courts yesterday upheld the Attorney General’s submissions on Mahaviru (Maaveerar) commemorations.
The two courts ordered the prohibition of Mahaviru commemoration ceremonies being held in Mullaitivu and Jaffna.
Senior officers of the Attorney General’s Department had previously appeared on behalf of Police at the courts and made submissions in order to prevent ‘Mahaviru’ commemorations from being held.
